Fishing Micro Craws

Contributing Author -Jesse Jodon-
Down south or far north. Largemouth or Smallmouth. Big Bass to small dink. River, Creek or Lake. It Doesn't matter.
There are not very many types of bait that work well in practically any condition, some might say there is none. Well there is one that I like and it?s called the micro craw. It is a great technique and great for beginners.
Many companies make micro craw baits, but my favorites come from private producers and lure makers. A micro craw is just a small craw mimic lure such as a Yum baby Crawbug. I like 3 inch micro craws. The best thing about them is that lure companies in today?s world make the bait so realistic and life like. So even when they are just sitting on the bottom they look like a real, natural crawfish.
They are very easy to rig. I like rigging them straight on a jighead. Yes they are not weedless, but they have a great hook up ratio. They also work great as trailers for jigs. Well when you rig them exposed on a jighead, you must first chose the weight of the lead head. I like 1/8 ounce but when fishing deeper or faster water a 1/4 or 3/8 ounce will work.
Just like all the aspects of the micro craw, the presentation is also quite simple. I have found the best success just pitching the craw to my target and letting it sink to the bottom. Once on the bottom I give the bait a few twitches with the rod tip and pause. Then slowly reel it in so it is ticking the entire bottom. Give it a few pauses so a fish has time to grab it. The slower your reel in the better the action of the bait will be. When fishing a rockier bottom, make sure you have extra line, hooks and baits because snags are going to happen so be prepared.
So in all, if you want to try out a new technique, but you are not sure if it will work or not; try given the micro craw a try.
